Description: Don’t get lost in the FOG! Join the EFC Network for this training on Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) prevention. FOG is a major problem in sewer systems today and must be addressed with a multi-pronged approach to protect your sewer system, public health, and the environment. This training is designed to help communities develop a FOG prevention program, grow their current programs, and develop outreach materials to the community to minimize the impact of excessive FOG on the sewer system.

Training Objectives:

  • Learn the basic of what FOG is and how it impacts the sewer system
  • Understand the components of a successful FOG prevention program
  • Understanding FOG regulations
  • Learn how to develop a FOG ordinance with the SWEFC’s FOG ordinance template and writing guide
  • Learn how to assess your community’s capacity for a FOG program
  • Provide training on how to provide monitoring for and enforce FOG prevention programs
  • Learn about the impact for domestic FOG producers, and requirements for food service establishments (FSE) and grease interceptor cleaners
  • Learn about FOG prevention outreach

CECs: This training is approved for 4.0 hours of Continuing Education Credit for Wastewater Operators by Oklahoma DEQ.

  • Managers, owners, and operators of wastewater systems with an average daily flow of less than 1 million gallons
  • Decision-makers for wastewater utilities, including mayors, finance officers, utility managers, public works directors, city councilors, board members, tribal council members, and clerks
